Steelers Continue Dominance Of Browns

By Ross Everett

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been playing the Cleveland Browns for longer than any other team in the National Football League, dating back to 1950. And while it hasn't been quite that long since the Cleveland Browns won a game against the Steelers it may be starting to feel like it. On Sunday, Pittsburgh won for the twelfth straight time dating back to 2003 as they topped Cleveland by a final score of 27-13.

The good news for NFL betting enthusiasts who took the +13' with the Browns as a road underdog is that they managed to cover the pointspread by the slimmest of possible margins. Betting against the defending Superbowl champion is a long standing handicapping concept, and this season at least its worked like a charm-the Steelers have only covered one of their first six games. Cleveland, meanwhile, evened their NFL pointspread record at 3-3 on the season. The Browns have covered three straight after dropping their first three both straight up and against the spread.

Pittsburgh dominated the game in virtually every statistical category. They amassed 28 first downs to 12 for Cleveland, held a 543 to 197 total yardage advantage and a 36:46 to 23:14 time of possession advantage. Both teams turned the ball over four times, and the Steelers led only 17-14 in the third quarter. Most of the post game talk from both sides was about a controversial spot in the first half where the Steelers were given a first down on a short yardage play when it appeared that they didn't make the required yardage.

After the contest, Derek Anderson spoke of the frustration of continually coming up short against the Steelers. The Browns have only one once in ten games since Pittsburgh moved into their new home at Heinz Field:

"We're not trying to lose every time we go out here. We put tons of hours in and ... it's frustrating. Every single week, it's frustrating."

Steelers' tight end Heath Miller said the team is happy to be where they are at this point despite not playing up to their standards:

"I think we haven't played our best ball yet and that's pretty comforting. We've gotten a few wins here without playing our best."

The Steelers will host Brett Favre and the 6-0 Minnesota Vikings next Sunday. The Steelers are a -4 home favorite with the total set at 45. After a bye week, the Steelers will hit the road to play another undefeated team as they take on the Denver Broncos on Monday, November 9. Cleveland will host the Green Bay Packers this Sunday, with the Browns a +7 home underdog and the total set at 42'. They'll head to 'The Windy City' to face the Chicago Bears the following Sunday and then have a bye week.

HELP!!! What Golf Gift Can I Get For...

By Evan Geldart

If you have a golfer on your "Christmas List" this year, you have a multitude of choices available for you. It doesn't matter if he is a pro who can drive that ball 300 yards down the field, or a mere beginner who doesn't know which end of the club to hold, there is something for everyone. With such a wide selection of golf gifts available, where is one to start? With such a sea of products, what golf gift should one choose? In this article we will help you navigate the stormy world of the golfing galaxy...

Golf can be a fascinating game...yet frustrating at the same time. One minute you can make a perfect shot, and then find yourself chasing that little white ball from the tee to the sand trap to the rough to the water hazard. Yet it's those perfect shots that send our mind wandering into the world of possibilities. Could I be a professional? Could I quit my day job and join all the other pros like me on the tour? How can I improve? All I need is a bit more instruction and the right equipment, right? Now that we have the proper frame of mind, we will delve into the arena of categories of instruction and equipment.

1) Equipment. People who know almost nothing about golf still realize that you need a ball, and then some sort of a clubbing device to hit it with. These are the basics, and beyond these there are a number of options and varieties available. These will depend on not only the quality of the equipment, but also the specific implement that you are going to need to get the job done. No use using that #3 wood on the putting green...

2) Golfing Instruction. Do you play guitar? It's been said that the guitar is one of the easiest instruments to play, and yet one of the hardest to master. The same can be said for the game of golf. Those who desire to master this game have a wide range of options available. The least expensive options are DVD's and books. For those who have a bit more money there is private instruction from a golf pro.

3) Golf Courses. Equipped with a ball and a club you are still going to need to have a place to use them. Many golfers are members of a specific club, so they tend to play most of their rounds of golf there...but they long to try their stuff on that other course nearby. Why not surprise them with a round or two of golf at this course? If you have a bit more money you could always get them a golf package to that fantastic course in Florida or California they are always talking about.

4) Tournament Tickets - All of us have heroes and mentors, and golfers are no exception. You could always surprise that special golfer on your gift list with tickets to see their favorite golf hero in action. Golf professionals have a job that takes them all over the world, playing courses, and earning those $$$. Your golfing friend could be in the crowd! This will certainly be a gift that they will remember.

5) Novelty Gift Items - Laughing is the best medicine...or so the saying goes. Golfers, like the rest of us, can use a good belly laugh every now and then. Some of the golf novelty items out there are outright hilarious, while others are more subtle.

These golf gift categories are just something to get you thinking. In our future articles we will be offering more specifics on particular gifts, and why we think they are just GREAT! If you can't wait, you can always visit our blog... :)

Golfing Tips for Beginners: 5

By Rhys Jones

'Drive for show, but putt for the dough' is what we've all seen and understood from professional golfers in every tournament and championship either live or on TV.

The champions of golf can drive a ball from here to kingdom-come, but it all comes down to how many strokes it takes to get the ball in the hole. The long accurate drives don't mean anything if you're unable to putt accurately.

Your choice of putter is very important, but using the putter you have consistently, is even more so. I've had the same putter for fifteen years, so I know what it feels like in my hand, I know it's weight and I know how that plays into my putts.

Now putting takes a huge amount of practice. Think about this: we drive the ball roughly eighteen times a game (once per hole), but putt at least twice that amount. So, surely it make sense to practice putting at least twice as much as driving? Therefore, if you just can't get to the practice green that often, you could practice on your carpet at home.

Bear in mind that the ball can not make it to the hole, if it doesn't have enough power behind it to get it in there. So, take the time to get down on your knees and look at the path from your ball to the hole. Does it slope one way or the other? Does it run uphill or downhill?

The stance is: stand with your feet spread for balance and line up the putt. Keep you hands, arms and shoulders completely still. Imagine that you are a "bobble head" and that you move from just below the chest. Keep your head directly over the ball; pull your club back; keep your hands, wrists, arms and shoulders steady - the movement comes from your chest; hit the ball, following through with your club.

Try to learn from each putt and remember the lesson. Practice, practice, practice!

Colts Hammer Woeful Rams

By Ross Everett

Peyton Manning was unable to tie a NFL record with his sixth straight 300 yard game , but the Indianapolis Colts remained undefeated by ripping the lowly St. Louis Rams 42-6 at the Edward Jones Dome on Sunday. Manning amassed 235 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions as the Colts made short work of the winless Rams. St. Louis quarterback Marc Bulger continued to struggle, with 140 yards passing, two interceptions and no touchdowns.

NFL betting devotees who backed Indy as -14 road favorites easily won their bets as the Colts improved to 5-1 against the spread. After dropping their first game of the year to the number, Indy has run off five straight pointspread covers. The Chiefs dropped to 2-5 against the spread with the setback.

After the game, Colts' coach Jim Caldwell praised his quarterback:

"He functions pretty well within the system. He does a great job leading our team and being a field general. I don't think he reached 300 yards, but nevertheless he was very effective."

As has become his form, Manning deflected the praise onto his offensive line:

"I really appreciate the protection I've been getting. It's something I don't take for granted."

Indianapolis tight end Dallas Clark gave kudos to the Indy fans that made the trip to St. Louis to support the team:

"We had a great following today. It was outstanding. When we were introduced it felt like a home game."

Rams' running back Steven Jackson sounded like a man out of answers:

"We have to learn to put four good quarters together. We don't know how to win a game right now."

The Colts will return home next Sunday to face a potentially tricky game against the San Francisco 49ers. They'll remain at home for the following two games, hosting the Houston Texans the following week and the New England Patriots on November 15th. St. Louis will take on another one of the NFL's bottom feeders next Sunday, playing on the road against the Detroit Lions. The game is currently off the board while the Lions' quarterback injuries get sorted out. The Rams will have a much needed bye week after that before returning to action on November 15th as they host the New Orleans Saints.

Getting Rid of Fleas And Ticks The Natural Way

By Catherine V. Testaratti

Pesky parasites known as fleas have troubled us all for many years. We all worry about the effects of those nasty chemical treatments available over the counter. Well, worry no more; read on to see our natural and friendly flea and tick treatments.

Wanting to keep your pet happy and healthy is something we all strive for. Keeping our children safe and healthy is also a concern. Chemical flea treatments are something we have all heard can be harmful to both our pets and kids.

First on our list is something as common as brewers yeast. Mix a little of that with a small amount of garlic in your dogs food to act as a natural repellent. Do not use the garlic for cats because garlic and onions are toxic for cats. Another option is to squeeze lemon or orange juice on your pet's fur and massage it into their fur for a citrus smelling repellent.

When you give your dog a bath, notice that the fleas will fall off? Using liquid dish soap with a citrus base and a regular brushing will keep the flea problem under control. Fleas do not take hold of the hair shaft so these solutions are relatively easy.

If your home has carpeted flooring, then it's best to remember that you must vacuum regularly. There is a worm called a beneficial nematode, which is different than the worms that cause heart worms, and they feed off the larva of fleas. These can be put in your yard to control fleas outside.

To protect your pest from ticks, you can do one simple thing to make it more difficult for the ticks. They live in wooded areas in tall grass and are not able to grab onto the hair of your dog. A good thing to do is take your old T-shirt to cover the dog's body and belly, socks like leg warmers for his or her legs, acting as a deterrent.

While this will not completely protect your dog, it's a preventative measure that surely can't hurt. As we mentioned earlier, the ticks have nothing to latch onto so something is better than nothing. And just think of the looks you will get when you are taking your precious pooch out for his daily exercise.

Ticks carry hazardous bacteria so it's very important that we do all we can to keep ticks from your pets. Use rose geranium oil to curb the ticks by putting it around the interior of the dog's collar and it acts as a natural repellent. Do not us this treatment for your cats due to their likelihood of having a severe reaction to essential oils.

Now that you have a few alternate means of combating fleas and ticks, you can feel confident that your pets will remain bug-free throughout the year. Summer time is a particularly hard time where fleas and ticks are concerned so keep your pet happy and critter free by using these safe and environment friendly tricks. Just remember that proper removal of ticks is essential.
