A lot of people are passionate about the things that they own and find valuable . This is particularly true for those people that take the hobby of collecting very seriously and spend a great deal of time and money pursuing it. A lot of the huge collectors may travel across the globe to find specific things that they want to add to their collections. This article will discuss 3 things that people like collecting such as baseball cards or topps baseballs cards as well as coins and stamps. These are some of the most frequently collected things that people like .

Thecollectible that has been a popular one is collecting rare baseball cards. This usually has those people that have a love for the game of baseball and know all of the past players and which ones are more valuable than others. Baseball cards hit a high point in the 1970's with record sales being sold to men and young boys all over the country . As technology and computers emerged in the 1980's baseball cards saw slower sales. Currently, the most expensive baseball card is a 1909 Honus Wagner card that sold for over 2 million dollars and was owned by professional hockey player, Wayne Gretzky.

The second favorite item to collect and has existed as long as there have been human beings is the hobby of collecting coins. Currency is something that can be traced back hundreds and hundreds of years and the older the coin and how rare it is, the more valuable it is by those that collect coins . The most expensive coin is the 1933 Gold Double Eagle that sold for 7.5 million dollars. There were over 400,000 of these coins made with the 1933 date but none of them were released because President Roosevelt made changes in the currency during the Depression. He decided to take America off the gold standard and made it illegal to have any gold coins also . This obviously, created a very hard to locate and rare coin and that is why it cost a small fortune .

The las favorite item to collect are stamps as they constantly change and are different depending on what part of the world it came from. The most rare and ultimately the most expensive stamp was from 1856 and is a one cent Black on Magente from British Guiana. It was rare because it sold out right away prior to being able to make more so there was only one set that was ever produced . It appears that the more rare the item, the more valuable and expensive it becomes for collectors. This 1 penny sold for $935,000 in an auction.

People that are serious collectors of rare items such as baseball cards, coins and stamps enjoy the hobby and the challenge of searching for something that they do not have or finding the best deal on something that is hard to find . Other people simply like finding a variety of types of the item that they collect also.
