The book series Eragon has captured many of our hearts. Some beautiful writing by Christopher Paolini, coupled with a long and well-thought out series of stories has made this one of the best trilogies of recent times. Recent movie adaptations of the book have helped boost it's popularity too.

In the first volume, Eragon, the main character, aptly named Eragon begins as a poor lad growing up on a farm, but along the way he finds he has a greater destiny: to be a dragon rider. Together, he and his dragon becomes heroes and save the entire Empire.

The second book in this great trilogy, Eldest, is even more well written by Paolina and carries on the story of Eragon. Now the Empire is controlled by Galbatorix, an evil dominator, and Eragon is again called to save the Empire. Together with Sapphire, his dragon, they head out to accomplish their mission in this classic tale.

Finally, in Brisingr, the final book, Eragon takes Sapphire into yet another battle. This time they wage war with more dwarves but barely escape alive. In the end, with some additional preparation, Eragon gets hold of the magic sword and goes out to battle the king. This is yet another epic chapter in the saga.

Johnson Basketball

One of the greatest players to ever walk onto the court, "Magic" Johnson was born Earvin Johnson in Lansing, MI in 1959. Born into a large family of a GM worker, a school custodian and nine other children, Johnson discovered basketball early. Johnson has said that he used to walk to the store dribbling with one hand and dribbling with the other as he walked back.

He got his nickname as the star of Everett High School. A local sportswriter, who had watch the amazing 15-year-old play and scoring 36 points, 16 rebounds, and 16 assists, felt no other word would describe Earvin other than "Magic!" After excelling at Everett High School, Magic wanted to stay close to home for college, so Michigan State was the obvious choice. Even as a freshman, he was impressive with numbers like 17 points per game and led his college teammates, The Spartans, to a 25.5 record and The Big Ten Conference title. As a sophomore, Johnson and his teammates won the national title in 1979 and beat out Larry Birds' Indiana State in what is thought of as one of the most watched NCAA Championship Game-ever.

Deciding to go professional, Johnson decided to declare his eligibility for the draft in 1979, where he was snapped up by the Lakers. Lakers fans were incredibly excited to see one of the nations' best college players on their team. Larry Byrd ended up winning the NBA Rookie of the year award, the Lakers did capture the NBA championship in Johnson's first year on the team with a 60-22 record. The next year, Johnson and the Lakers performed even better, with Johnson matching his college records - he was the first rookie to start in an all star game since 1969.

The 1980 NBA finals saw another amazing performance from Johnson against the Philadelphia 76ers. Johnson scored 42 points, 15 boards, 7 assists and 3 steals in the series. Magic became the first rookie ever to win the MVP award in the finals. Magic was modest as usual about his achievement: "I just wanted to do whatever the (Lakers) needed to do to win. I was having fun." However, the next year would see Johnson sidelined for 45 games due to torn cartilage in his knee.

Upon his recovery, the Lakers lost no time in regaining their glory, destroying all opposition to take the division title and once again defeated Philadelphia in the NBA finals; and Johnson won his second NBA finals MVP award.

In 1984, Johnson signed a $25 million contract with the Lakers. It was a good investment for the team, which captured three of the next four NBA titles. Johnson would also score a stunning 38 points in a game against Houston and an even more incredible 46 in a match-up with Sacramento in the 1986-1987 season. This season also saw Johnson's career-high scoring average of 23.9 points per game. Johnson would win the NBA's MVP award this season; an honor he would also receive in 1989 and 1990.

Johnson announced before the start of the 1991-1992 season that he had HIV and would be retiring. However, he didn't simply bow out. Johnson played in the 1991 All-Star game, where he received the MVP award. Johnson has kept extremely busy ever since both in and out of the sports world. He authored a book on safe sex, started companies and foundations, worked as a NBC sports commentator and even spent part of a season filling in as head coach for the Lakers! Johnson also played on the US Olympic Basketball "Dream Team" in 1992. Johnson also returned to the Lakers for part of a season in 1996; a fitting victory lap for this basketball legend.

Magic Johnson, in his thirteen NBA seasons came away with 17,707 points, 19.5 points per game average, 6,559 rebounds, and 10,141 assists. He also had an impressive 1,724 steals placing him at ninth place on the all-time list. In 1996-97, he was invited to the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team and in 2002, he entered the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Magic was a star in basketball and perhaps a former NBA player who knew him best, said it best-"Magic is head-and-shoulders above everybody else. I've never seen anybody as good as him,"-Larry Bird.

Does The NHL Still Matter?

Not very long ago, hockey was right up there with NFL Football, NBA Basketball and Major League Baseball as one of the most popular sports in the US. The other three are still going strong, with the NFL still dominant in the American sports scene.

In fact, hockey is not truly considered to be in that big four grouping any longer. Of course, a more accurate description of the sports climate might show that NASCAR and MMA have joined the NFL, NBA and MLB in that top tier. Hockey however is on the outside looking in, no longer enjoying the popularity it once did.

How did this happen to the NHL? Was it the entire season that was lost to the lockout that did this? No, that wasn't the reason, that lost year to the lockout was actually a symptom of the problem itself. The lockout was held because salaries were getting out of control and many franchises, outside of the most popular ones such as the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings, simply could not afford to keep paying as much to their players as they were.

As any fan who lives in a city with a NHL franchise knows, declining ticket sales aren't the cause of NHL franchises' slumping revenues; games continue to be well attended and eagerly looked forward to. The reason for the lower revenue has to do with broadcast rights, a significant source of income for the NHL. Hockey is simply less popular as a televised sport than it once was.

While the lockout wasn't in itself the cause of the NHL's problems, it certainly didn't help. When hockey returned to television in the 2005-2006 season, ESPN passed on the broadcast rights for NHL games. OLN (now known as Versus) picked up the broadcast rights - this network has a much smaller reach than ESPN and correspondingly shallower pockets. As a result, the NHL continues to have financial difficulties and many hockey fans are unable to receive NHL games at all, something that does not bode well for the NHL's ability to recapture the attention of sports fans.

Adding to this problem is the fact that hockey isn't the most captivating sport to watch on television. It is a fantastic sport to take in live. This helps explain why the sport is so popular in major metropolitan areas where there is a hockey team. These fans get to go to the games and take in the rabid culture. You can hear the turns and stops of the skating, you can feel the jarring checks as players hit the ice and fall into the boards. The speed and precise nature of the game comes out in a way that it simply cannot on television. Those people who never see a game in person therefore, may not even know what they are missing out on by not being a hockey fan.

Therefore the answer to the question is that no, hockey is no longer one of the major sports in this country. It has lost it's place in that upper echelon, and is struggling for a strategy to get back. It needs to find a way to make its television games more exciting, while also getting those games aired in a spot where more people can view them. Until both of those happen it may be hard for the NHL to regain the spotlight it once had.

DEET is one of the most effective mosquito repellents. It became available in 1957. It is one of two products that the Center for Disease Control (CED) recommends because each works well and offers long-lasting protection. In addition DEET has an excellent safety record. The other product is picaridin.

Mosquito repellent products come in many concentrations. Which you choose will depend on how long you're typically outside. If you're usually out 3-4 hours, you might look for a product with 20% or more of DEET. However, scientists tell us that products containing more than 50% DEET do not offer extra protection. If you're often outside for less than 3 hours a product with less than 20% DEET or 7% picaridin offers good protection.

How safe are these products? Here's what the various agencies say. If used according to directions DEET does not pose any health problems, and is not considered a human carcinogen according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The CDC does not recommend sunscreens with combining products that contain DEET. DEET concentrations below 30% are safe for children two months of age and older according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The CDC recommends two other active ingredients that typically provide reasonably long protection, although not as long as the higher concentrations of DEET. They are oil of lemon eucalyptus and IR3535. Oil of lemon eucalyptus is a synthetic version of the real product. EPA's testing indicates that oil of lemon eucalyptus provides protection similar to low concentrations of DEET. Read the label however, as that product should not be used on children under 3 years of age.

In spite of many scientific studies, there is no evidence that ultrasonic mosquito repellent devices work. Neither is there any evidence that eating garlic, vitamins, onions, or any other food will repel mosquitoes from people. It seems the portable traps that emit carbon dioxide are still too new for any decision from the scientists.

The following guidelines will help use mosquito repellents safely: Read the label and follow directions. Apply these products only to exposed skin, never under clothing. Avoid applying these products to wounds, rashes or cuts. Never apply near mouth or eyes and apply only lightly around the ears. Children should not be allowed to apply these products. Wash with soap and water or bathe when you return indoors.

World Series of Poker has never been winner-take-all and probably never will. Benny Binion took that concept, made his event a world championship caliber tournament, and the buzz caught on. World Series of Poker prize money was always negotiated by the players.

Those type of deals mentioned above, didn't always end up at the final table like it does today. Before the tournament started, the players voted on how the prize pool should be distributed and separated. Players resumed playing using 25% of their previous chips. 75% of the other chips were exchanged for cash at the cage.

A legal investigation ensued, because the winner-take-all tournament idea raised red flags. It raised the flags cause of the fabrication of prize money, and operating procedures were somewhat suspicious. If you have ever heard of the old quiz show, where the game was rigged called "twenty one", the federal broadcasting law wasn't enforced in this case, like it was there.

Suddenly, in the mid 1970's, CBS began to broadcast winner-take-all tennis tournaments in Las Vegas. These tennis tournaments were held in Caesars Palace. The winner would win $100,000. Tennis players Rod Lacer and Jimmy Conners were splitting the prize money. It was suppose to be winner-take-all. They both confessed to what they did. This left CBS with a hefty fine from the FCC and issuing a public apology. Sporting events were being shunned, especially the World Series of Poker.

It was only a matter of time before the FBI investigated the under-the table deals taking place during the World Series of Poker tournament. Benny Binion spoke to the poker players and told them he would pay the top five. Splitting the prize money between players was over in 1978.

In the 1978 WSOP Binion kept his word and paid out the top 5 spots. Binion soon realized that with an overwhelming growth in entrants that he was going to have to pay out more spots to keep new players coming in. The then current payout of the top 5 slots would last until 1981, when Binion then told players it would be paid the top 9 spots.

Players started pouring in from all over the world, and in the upcoming years would set attendance and payout records. This started with the Chris Moneymaker shocker in 2003, setting a new record for winnings in the WSOP. In 04' Binion paid out 225 spots. He was at it again in 2005 paying out 560 slots, and 873 in 06'.

As you can see the WSOP has payout structure has grown very rapidly over the years, just like the game's popularity. The game now is being shown on ESPN which is the largest sporting network in the world on television. The WSOP has become a huge phenomenon. The instructor will usually be talking about an important topic and your child needs to make sure they listen carefully. Again this is really part of good etiquette.

Unemployment Rate: A low unemployment rate is considered to be a positive for the countrys economy and its currency. A low unemployment rate means almost all the consumers have jobs and they are willing to spend more. The more the consumer spends, the more the companies and businesses in the country sell. This generates more output and further expands the economy. The unemployment rate data reports the state of the labor market in the country. The opposite is true for a high unemployment rate. High unemployment means the economy is in recession and many people are without jobs just like the present. Under such conditions, consumer spending decreases. Companies and businesses start laying off more workers and in extreme case go bankrupt when they cant sell their stuff in the markets.

Trade Balance: This is another widely watched economic indicator in fundamental analysis. If a country exports more than it imports, the trade balance is in surplus. If the imports are more than the exports, the country will end up with a trade deficit. Trade deficits are not good and must be balanced by the capital account surplus otherwise a balance of payment problem will ensue.

For example, suppose US import more from Europe. USD will have to be sold in order to buy Euros to pay for those imports. This will result in the depreciation of USD relative to the Euro and other currencies. The opposite is true in case of a trade surplus. USD will strengthen relative to Euro if US exports more to Europe as compared to its imports.

Geopolitical risk refers to the risk of a countrys foreign or domestic policy affecting domestic social and political stability in another country or the region. Geopolitical risk is also very important. It can cause the currency of a country to move up or down relative to other currencies.
