What Are Real Pet Memorials?

By Neal Bilboa

Pets become members of the family almost as soon as they arrive. It is amazing how people tend to treat their pets like people. With that said, why then should people think any different about their pet's death? Pet memorials are ways in which people can keep their pet's memory alive: a way to remember that special pet. Like any memorial, a pet memorial is an object in which to remember and honor the lost one.

Pet memorials are not uncommon or unheard of. Memorials are not just for preserving the memories of people but can also be for pets as well. Pets are like family members and often treated the same. A pet memorial may sound ridiculous to some people but to others it is the only way to remember and honor their pet.

Memorials can vary in size and shape with some being simple while others are extravagant. You would be surprised at how far some people are willing to go in order to honor their pets.

Some people can take pet memorials to the extreme. Some have gone as far as having their pet cremated and their ashes stored in a memorial urn. While others take the bodies of their deceased animals to a taxidermist in order to have, a statuette produced from the animal's corpse.

The uncomplicated pet memorials include ornaments, stones, pictures, and markers. Just because the memorial is small does not mean it will not honor the memory of the pet just like a big elaborate memorial. The ultimate goal of the memorial is to preserve the memory.

Very few households do not have pets. Most people adore the companionship and loyalty a pet can offer. Pets are like people and cannot live forever even though we wish they could. Therefore, pet memorials are increasing in numbers.

You might think people are crazy or out of their mind to even consider having pet memorials but remember, you must respect others and their feelings. Pets bring joy and happiness to people and quickly become a part of the family. Losing a family member can be devastating and losing a pet can be equally devastating.

Pet memorials can be elaborate or simple, fancy or plain; it is just a way to persevere memories of beloved pets. Be supportive and respect a person's memories of their beloved pet because the pet memorial is their way of honoring the memory.
